We want to respond as people of faith. Here are three ways you can respond in action to Hurricane Harvey: 1. Pray: lift up those who are impacted and those who are helping. 2. Donate: 100% of your gifts to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) go directly to relief efforts. UMCOR is already on the ground in Texas making a difference. Click here to donate and choose the UMCOR-TX option for your gifts. (Or mark UMCOR in the memo line of your check given to the church.) 3. Church Street is collecting UMCOR hygiene kits to be used by those impacted. Complete a hygiene kit and return it to the church office by Sunday, September 17. Community School of the Arts (CSA) is a non-profit after-school program that provides tuition-free arts and music education for low income and at-risk students. CSA is celebrating its 25th anniversary serving students from nearly every school in Knox County. CSA has been named ?one of the top 50 arts and humanities based youth programs in the country? by the President?s Committee on the Arts and Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts for the past four years. CSA provides free private lessons in music performance and group classes in percussion and visual arts. All CSA instructors are professional artists or musicians who choose to share their gifts by teaching under-served students in addition to their professional careers. Longtime Church Street member Jennifer Willard has served for 25 years as the executive director of CSA. ?As a member, and someone whose parents have played a role in the life of the church, to me this feels like coming home. [Jennifer?s parents are Lilly Willard and the late Bill Willard.] We are thrilled to begin a new chapter in our history in a place as wonderful as Church Street. We are so grateful to Church Street for such a warm welcome,? Jennifer said. After school classes for CSA?s 100 students will begin on September 18. Church Street will open the CLC Monday through Friday during the school year to welcome students, teachers and their families. (Regular Church Street programming will not be disrupted as we open our doors to CSA.)
