Chuck has been in full-time professional ministry since 1987.
Chuck is a three-time graduate of the University of Southern California receiving a
Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from the College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences; an
interdisciplinary Master of Arts (MA) from the Graduate School in both Cinema and
Drama in History and Aesthetics and Criticism; and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from
the Graduate School of Performing Arts in Drama with an emphasis in Directing. He
also completed his California Teaching Credential with certification in Secondary
Education (Social Studies and English).
Chuck is a multi-career minister. He received his diaconal ministry seminary training
at the School of Theology at Claremont (CA); the Candler School of Theology at Emory
University (Atlanta, GA), and the Pacific School of Religion (Berkeley, CA). He is a
Certified Church Business and Finance Administrator. Prior to entering full-time
professional ministry Chuck was a public school teacher, a Hollywood press agent,
ground transportation specialist, and an airline flight department supervisor.
Before coming to Church Street, Chuck served as Executive Director of the Southern
California Ecumenical Council (of Churches); Associate in Ministry and Administrator
for Hollywood Beverly Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); Associate Council Director
for Discipleship Ministries and Church Development for the West Ohio Conference of the
United Methodist Church, Independent Church Consultant for Morning Star Ministries, and
Director of Singles Ministries at St. Luke’s UMC in Orlando (FL).
Chuck served eight years as a Director for the General Board of Discipleship and eight
years as a Director of the General Commission on United Methodist Men (including one
quadrennium as Vice President). He has been elected to the General Conference in 1988
and 1992 and chaired the Ministry of the Laity sub committee at both conferences. He
was a member of the Inter Agency Task Force on Legislation and served as a legislative
consultant for the 1996, 2000, and 2004 General Conferences. He was selected as a delegate
to the World Methodist Conference in 2001.
In addition to being a District Certified Lay Speaker (since 1982), Chuck has served as a
Jurisdictional, Conference, and District President of United Methodist Men, Vice President
of the National Association of United Methodist Scouters, a District Council on Ministries
Chair and various agencies and task forces at all levels of the church. He has been awarded
UMMen Life Membership, the Torch Award (for Service to Youth); and elected to the Society of
John Wesley Fellows.
Chuck’s primary interests are theatre and film as well as USC Trojan football.
Chuck is married to Susan Weave Jones who is an elementary school teacher and reading
specialist. Their blended family includes Justin Weaver, an honor student at Farragut High
School
