NURSERY / CHILDCARE NEWS Our youngest children learn that church is a happy and safe place to be as they are cared for by our nursery staff and volunteers. Each Sunday morning Church Street has a nursery available for children through 18 months of age during the Sunday school hour. Children are placed in age appropriate rooms under the loving care of our child care staff. Children, 18 months and older, follow a planned curriculum of Christian study in their individual classes each week.
Childcare may be available for church meeting and special events, if requested one week in advance. Please call 521-0290 for childcare reservations.
For more detailed information, please visit our Nursery and ChildCare web page.Spirit Adventure is our rotation model Sunday school for children in the first through fifth grades. In Spirit Adventure, children study the same Bible story for five weeks. Each week each grade moves to a different workshop where they explore the story from a different perspective using many creative ideas. Our children explore, enjoy and learn from five different workshops:
We know that children stay in the church longer if they worship with their parents. We also know that children are frequently bored in worship even though we try to teach them what worship is all about. In our unique approach to children's worship, kids are not learning about worship, but they are learning how to worship through sensory-motor experiences based on godly play.
We offer worship for children during both worship services for those who are currently in our four-year-old through second grade classes. Children remain in worship with their parents for half the service and then are escorted to their own worship center by adult greeters. There children learn appropriate worship behavior as well as ways to prepare themselves for their special time with God.

Children's Choirs are under the leadership of Kathy Tallent. First-Second Grade Choir meets at 5:30 pm and the Boy-Girl Choir (for 3rd - 5th graders) meets at 6:15 pm.
Childcare for younger children is available for all Sunday evening activities.
It takes many dedicated people to create a ministry that meets the needs of our children and families. We are always seeking people who are capable of loving, listening, and respecting our precious children's uniqueness as children of God. If you are interested in volunteering or discussing where you fit within our ministry, please contact Sue Isbell at 521-0282 or sisbell@churchstreetumc.org.
For other church volunteer opportunities, check out the Volunteer Hot List.
An outreach ministry at Church Street, the Child Day Care Center has been in existance for almost 40 years.

Church Street is a Safe Sanctuaries congregation.
We believe that our church is a holy place of sanctuary for the children of God. We acknowledge that the church may be the only place where some children and youth find the unconditional love and care they so desperately need to grow, to thrive, and to become faithful people. Our church must be a place where people of all ages can come together for worship, study, fellowship and service with the assurance that they are safe and secure in the community of faith.
It is the purpose of our Safe Sanctuaries policy to set forth reasonable safety guidelines in the selection and training of adult workers who supervise children and youth; to educate adult leaders with children and youth in acceptable operational procedures, methods, and policies for all church sponsored events; and to have an approved method for reporting a suspected incident of abuse to local, state, and church authorities.
For specific questions about Safe Sanctuaries, please contact Sue Isbell at (865) 521-0282 or at sisbell@churchstreetumc.org.
