Learn More About Small Group Ministry at Church Street
  [More]

You might have heard by now that we are going to be starting a new small group ministry this year. Many of you have expressed interest in starting or being a part of small groups made up of our church family. The time has come to get the ball rolling to make that happen.

You will be able to sign up to be a part of a small group starting in February. These groups will all look different because they will be designed to meet the varying spiritual and communal needs of our congregation. These groups will be designed by you and for you. My hope is that creating small, close-knit, family-like groups will provide an opportunity for everyone to be purposely connected to a Christian based community beyond Sunday mornings.

Acts 2:42 says that the members of the early church "devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers." Small groups at Church Street will seek to build this type of relationship within their groups. Although individual small groups will look different, Acts 2:42 will serve as the guide for this new ministry. Each group will be asked to do three things whether they decide to have a weekly fellowship dinner in a home, an early morning prayer meeting at the church, or an in-depth bible study at a local coffee shop. The 3 guidelines are simple: 1) Pray for one another 2) Be in the Word together and 3) Fellowship regularly.

In short, the church universal does not need more teachers - it needs more family, more community. The launch of small group ministries at Church Street will aim to create more of just that - more people to help you raise your kids, more loved-ones to pull alongside of you during tragedy, more chosen-family to laugh with over meals, more friends who, as Proverbs say, stick closer than a brother. I am excited to see this ministry get started in 2014. I can't wait to join together and to get each of you plugged into the groups that will serve you best along your journey! Please do not hesitate to contact me at ahelton@churchstreetumc.org or 521-0263 for more information regarding the launch of small group ministries at Church Street or if you feel called to be a small group leader or host.
