40 Days of Prayer for Transformation
The United Methodist churches of the Knoxville District are invited to join in 40 days of Prayer for Transformation from May 22-June 30.
The invitation is extended to every United Methodist individual in the Knoxville District to be in prayer over these 40 days, seeking the transformation of themselves as well as the whole congregation. Specifically, we are seeking for a single-minded focus on the mission given to us by Jesus Christ our Lord: "Go make disciples." This mission focus primarily emphasizes initiating relationships with those who do not know Christ and guiding them into a personal relationship with him. Participants are asked to include the following prayers as they pray each day.
(Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane),
"Father...not my will but yours be done." (Luke 22:42)
John Wesley's Covenant Prayer
(For a church to pray together)
We are no longer our own, but yours.
Put us to what you will, rank us with who you will.
Put us to doing, put us to suffering.
Let us be employed by you or laid aside for you,
Exalted for you or brought low by you.
Let us be full, let us be empty.
Let us have all things, let us have nothing.
We freely and heartily yield all things
To your pleasure and disposal.
And now, O glorious and blessed God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
You are ours and we are yours. So be it.
And the covenant which we have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen.
