Items Needed for Food Co-op
  [Less]

Since the beginning of 2015, the Food Co-op has distributed over $7,000 worth of food, most of which has donated by CSUMC members. Every other week Food Co-op members and volunteers work together to set out the food, to share joys and concerns, and to participate in a devotional led by members or volunteers. Approximately 800 items - canned vegetables, canned meats, cereal, canned fruit, pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, etc are distributed every other week. The Co-op members are so appreciative of the outpouring of Christian love and generosity you have shown through your gifts of food. This ministry would not be possible without the ongoing generous food donations made each week, and everyone involved in this ministry thanks you for being partners with us.

During the summer months children will be at home and the need for food will increase dramatically. Please consider picking up a few extra items at the grocery store from the list below and placing them in the box outside the kitchen. If you need assistance to bring the food, please contact Tresa Childs at 985-0399 or childs4au@att.net.

List: Cereal, Grits/Oatmeal, Pancake Mix, Syrup, Granola Bars, Breakfast Bars, Juice, Coffee, Pasta, Pasta Sauce, Canned Meat, Soup, Crackers, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Canned Vegetables, Canned Fruit, Flavored Pasta/Rice, Instant Potatoes, Macaroni & Cheese, Mayo, Mustard, Ketchup, Sugar, Sugar Substitute, Flour, Cornmeal, Oil

Request from the Sharing Shops
  [More]

We would like to ask for donations this Mother's Day for our female customers who struggle with finding feminine hygiene products. These items are not covered by SNAP benefits and can be expensive. There is nothing easy about living in poverty and trying to obtain certain items can be embarrassing and difficult. We ask that in honor of Mother's Day, you consider donating tampons & sanitary napkins to the Sharing Shops. We thank you for your generous and loving spirits and your willingness to share with our neighbors.

Event For Local Church Leaders
  [More]

Church Street Member to Speak at Local Event for Church Leaders

Locally-based Faith Charities will host its semi-annual networking and educational event for church pastors, staff, and lay leaders on Tuesday, May 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees will be introduced to fellow church leaders from a variety of church backgrounds
and denominations, gaining an opportunity to join together in fellowship and build bridges across the denominations by learning and sharing with fellow Christians.

Educational topics include a wide range of subjects affecting churches today. Pastor Ed Blair of the United Methodist Church will share practical advice about how churches can reduce tax burdens and manage risk. Another presentation will show how to make missions ministry safer for those sharing God's love in an imperfect and sometimes dangerous world. Those seeking to "do more" in their church may attend the Fundraising 4.0 presentation by our very own J.R. Hertwig who will share tools and strategies to help churches turbo-charge their fundraising efforts. A "Safety First" presentation will teach church leaders how to make their facilities safer while avoiding costly insurance claims.

In addition to learning opportunities, a fun and structured networking portion will ensure attendees connect with one-another. Paired attendees will have an opportunity to make life-long friends and gain a great sounding board for alternate perspectives and
ideas to help tackle challenges faced in their own church homes.

The cost to attend The Steward's Gathering is $10, including a baked pasta and salad
lunch. For more information or to register, visit www.thestewardsgathering.com.

Conference Missions Offering
  [More]

For the 2015 Annual Conference Missions Offering, the churches of the Holston Conference are committing ourselves to the children of our neighborhoods. We do not have to look far to find situations of poverty and great need. Children in our communities go to bed hungry, live in homes affected by addiction, struggle to have the supplies they need for education, and long for a caring adult to nurture them along the way.

This year's missions offering will focus on Children and Poverty right here in the Holston Conference. The funds collected will be available to be used in all 12 Holston Conference districts to support new and existing ministries that address this pressing need. Everyone in our congregation is challenged to give $10 and 10 hours of service on behalf of Children and Poverty in the Holston Conference. We will collect these offerings on Sundays, May 10 & 17. You can also give online at www.churchstreetumc.org at any time or place a designated check in the offering plate.
